Charity RTV & CCV 2023 final print programme
2022 is a special year for both St Luke’s Hospice ( Turnchapel, Plymouth) and CDLRC. This year is St Luke’s 40th anniversary and our 15th year of running the RTV In support of St Luke’s. Over the previous 14 years you, the competitors have allowed us to donate in excess of £44000 to St Luke’s Hospice to support their wonderful work. I think that all of us know someone who has received support from their local hospice at a very difficult stage of their life, and understand the caring support that they offer.
To celebrate the two anniversaries we are trying to change things a little this year to allow more people to participate, so we can raise even more money, as such we are going to hold two events, an RTV & CCV, and a Comp Safari.
This will be held at Dartmoor 4×4 centre, by kind permission of Gary & Jan Bulley. The closest postcode is EX6 6LF. The actual site is a couple of miles from there along narrow lines, it will be clearly signposted. If you can use “ what three words” then “jogged.overture.sidelined” will take you directly to the entrance gates of the off road site. Camping will be available on the Friday and Saturday night.
The event will be held as a privilege event, so open to non ALRC vehicles although they must be MSA compliant, and the driver must be a member of a MSA recognised club (not C&DLRC) There is an upper limit of 20 entrants.
This will be ONE event held over 2 days. The course is approx 1.5 mile long, and the intention is to run it in the opposite direction on the Sunday, we would expect to run 12 laps each day (whether dependant), whatever laps are stated to be run on the Saturday have to be attempted on the Saturday, you cannot carry unstarted laps over to the Sunday.
The comp will start at midday on the Saturday and be 5 hours ( tbc)
And start on Sunday at 10.00 for 5 hours.
Camping will be available, but please bring your own water and take your own rubbish away, there are no facilities on site for this. Unfortunately there is no catering van at the event.
To keep things simple there will be 2 classes for non ALRC vehicles above 3 litre and below 3 litre, regardless of beam axle or independent. ALRC classes will be as green book.
There will be a trophy first in class for each class, and overall winner ALRC and overall winner non ALRC.
For those members of CDLRC using ALRC compliant vehicles this event will form part of the 2022 championship
Some words from the 2022 event directors – Phil & Karen Heys
The 2022 C & D NEWNHAM charity trial took place on 25/26 June.
This year it was opened up to CCV vehicles as well as RTV vehicles.
11 teams of three drivers took part in the two 20 section trials.
Newnham estate allowed us to use both some new land, and some areas that have not been used for this event for many years. We had a mixed bag of weather over the weekend, with a fair bit of rain during the night, making the sections quite challenging.
Together with the help from our sponsors, and our fund raising activities in the evening, and kind donations/raffle prizes from over 24 sponsors we raised over £3500 over the course of the weekend. This together with the money we raised during a charity comp earlier in the year allowed us to donate £4020 to st Luke’s hospice, Turnchapel, Plymouth
The winning CCV team was Jacob Jepps, Joe Garne, and Paul Garne, with a combined score of 125 points The lowest scoring CCV driver for the Weekend being Mike Woodgate finishing on 26 points.
The winning RTV team was George Lewendon, Alex Moore, and Simon Wheeler, with a combined score of 131 points.The lowest scoring RTV driver for the weekend being David White on 15 points.
The spirit of the event was presented to Kim Dobinson for being an excellent Master of Ceremonies on Saturday night and helping raise lots of money for the charity.

This will as normal, be held at Newnham Park , by kind permission of David & Helen Cobbold. In line with the 40th anniversary of St Luke’s Hospice in Plymouth, the theme this year will be “ back to the 80’s”
The intention this year is to camp in the upper field (the one we have used in the past for National events), which has much more room and will be closer to the competitive sections. We have been able to secure some new areas of land within the estate, and return to some areas we have not trialled in for at least 6 years, so we hope this will freshen things up a little. This year we will not be using the “Windwhistle “ site so once you are on the estate there will be no need for you to drive on public roads to access any sections.
We have also removed the restriction that only allowed one modified vehicle per RTV team. We will allow any RTV vehicle in class 1-9 ( and Q class) to enter and be eligible to win the trophy.
The event will be a team event ( team of three) combined lowest score of the three drivers for both days will win the RTV event. The event will consist of 20 sections, 12 on Sat, 8 on Sunday, it will be run in accordance with ALRC competition regulations, and the supplementary regs attached to the entry form.
We will also be running a separate event for CCV vehicles, same format, team of three. The CCV sections will in some cases be the same or similar to the RTV sections, some with different gates on the way though and some sections with a different finish. There will be separate trophies for the CCV and the RTV.
It will not be possible to mix RTV and CCV vehicles within the same team
